Vertigo & Dizziness
Clinical Management

Reclaim stability and stop the spin with
targeted clinical assessments at Kelvin Grove.

Stopping the Spin

Vertigo and dizziness are more than just a nuisance; they can significantly impact your confidence and safety in daily life. At RHP Physiotherapy, we provide a clinical approach to diagnosing the mechanical drivers of your symptoms.

The most frequent cause of intense spinning when moving your head is BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). Our team, led by Nikki Rathbone, uses skilled positional testing to identify the source of the issue. By applying specific, gentle manual maneuvers (such as the Epley maneuver), we can often resolve the "spinning" sensation in just one or two sessions.

Manual Vertigo Assessment RHP Physiotherapy

Your Path to Stability

1. Clinical History

A detailed discussion of your symptoms including: when they start, what triggers them, and how long they last.

2. Diagnostic Testing

Skilled positional testing to determine if your dizziness is mechanical (ear), neurological, or neck-related.

3. Corrective Maneuvers

If BPPV is identified, we apply gentle, evidence-based manual repositioning to resolve the spinning sensation.

4. Gaze Stability

Exercises designed to strengthen the connection between your eyes and inner ear for clearer vision during movement.

5. Balance Integration

Targeted training to improve your "foot-to-brain" connection, reducing the risk of stumbles or falls.

6. Lifestyle Strategy

Practical advice on managing triggers and environmental changes to maintain long-term confidence and safety.

Restoring Confidence and Independence RHP Physiotherapy

Restoring Your Independence

For many of our patients, the goal is to regain the ability to move through life without fear. Whether it's the confidence to drive again, the stability to enjoy a walk in the park, or simply being able to turn your head without worry.

Our rehabilitation focus is on functional performance. We use a structured approach to help you reclaim the activities that define your daily life:

  • Confidence in crowded or busy environments
  • Safe navigation of stairs and uneven surfaces
  • Reduction in fall risk and "unsteadiness"
  • Return to hobbies, gardening, and social activities
  • Empowerment through self-management techniques

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is BPPV? +
BPPV occurs when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear become dislodged and move into the fluid-filled canals. This sends false signals to your brain about your head position, creating a spinning sensation (vertigo) during movement.
How many treatments are usually required? +
For classic BPPV, many patients experience significant relief after just one or two sessions involving corrective manual maneuvers. More chronic balance issues or post-viral dizziness may require a short course of vestibular rehabilitation.
Will the treatment make me feel sick? +
Positional testing is designed to reproduce your symptoms briefly so we can identify the cause. While this can be briefly uncomfortable, we move through the process slowly and carefully to ensure you are supported throughout the maneuver.
Can my neck cause dizziness? +
Yes. This is known as cervicogenic dizziness. It often feels more like "lightheadedness" or "unsteadiness" rather than a true spin. Because we are also experts in neck health, we can screen both your inner ear and your cervical spine to find the true culprit.
