EPC / Medicare On-Site Rebate Process

To ensure your Chronic Disease Management rebate is successfully processed directly into your account on the day of your treatment, please check that you bring the following items to your consultation:

  • GP Referral Paperwork: Ensure your medical practitioner has assigned the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral explicitly to RHP Physiotherapy before booking.
  • Practitioner Rate Payment: Appointments are charged at our standard clinical practitioner rate at the time of your consultation.
  • Valid Medicare Card: Present your physical or digital card so our front desk team can securely log the claim into the Medicare network.
  • Physical EFTPOS Debit Card: Medicare requires a physical debit card (linked to a savings or cheque account) to instantly return the rebate funds directly onto your card on-site. *Please note: Medicare terminals cannot process electronic card rebates onto smart devices or credit cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any hidden costs or gap fees with WorkCover appointments?

No. For approved WorkCover Queensland claims, RHP Physiotherapy bills the corporate insurance fund directly. There are absolutely no out-of-pocket expenses, gap payments, or hidden physical therapy fees passed down to the injured worker during their authorized medical rehabilitation timeline.

What do I need to bring to my very first WorkCover session?

Please bring your medical certificate from your general practitioner, your approved WorkCover claim number, and any specific workplace case manager contact information. If your claim is still pending approval, appointments are handled under standard clinical fees, and can be claimed back retrospectively once WorkCover issues your approval details.

How are DVA physical therapy sessions billed at the clinic?

We directly bill the Department of Veterans' Affairs following each therapeutic consultation. If you hold an appropriate DVA Health Card, your authorized clinical sessions are covered entirely by the program, resulting in zero personal billing or out-of-pocket costs to you.

Why does the EPC/Medicare plan require a physical debit card?

Appointments managed under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan are paid at our standard practitioner rate at the desk. To apply your Medicare rebate instantly on-site, the Medicare processing terminal requires a physical EFTPOS debit card containing an active savings or cheque framework. Medicare's automated systems cannot deposit electronic rebates back onto credit cards or digital phone wallets.

Can I combine my private health insurance with an EPC Medicare rebate?

No, Australian health insurance guidelines do not permit patients to combine private health extras with Medicare funding for the exact same clinical session. You can choose to utilize your allocated Medicare sessions first, and then switch over to your private health extras cover for subsequent treatment appointments.

How many sessions do I get under an EPC referral, and how does the calendar year work?

You are eligible for a maximum of 5 Medicare-funded allied health sessions per calendar year (January 1 to December 31). While a single referral form from your GP is technically valid for 12 months from the date it was signed, managing the crossover between calendar years can become tricky. For example, if your GP issues a referral late in the year and you use 3 sessions in December, those count toward your limit for that current year. If you use the remaining 2 sessions in January, those 2 sessions count toward your new calendar year allocation. This means you will still have 3 more Medicare-funded sessions available to use in that new year, but you will need your GP to issue a new referral form to claim them.

Will RHP track my remaining Medicare sessions for me?

Our front desk team can tell you exactly how many appointments you have attended at our clinic, but Medicare does not provide external providers with access to your system history to see when or where your total allocations have been used. Because your 5 annual sessions can be split across a range of different healthcare professionals (for example, if you use 2 sessions with a podiatrist, you only have 3 available to use with a physiotherapist), Medicare places the responsibility of tracking these allocations entirely on the patient. We highly recommend keeping a log of your appointments or checking your personal MyGov/Medicare app to ensure your remaining sessions are active before booking.
