Navigating Your Surgical Journey with Confidence

Choosing an orthopaedic operation to address severe joint pain, structural instability, or a major injury can feel daunting. True recovery, however, does not end when you leave the operating theater, it simply begins there.

At RHP Physiotherapy, we bridge the gap between your surgeon's structural work and your long-term lifestyle or sporting aspirations. By mapping precise milestones, we transform uncertainty into a clear, measurable roadmap back to full physical capacity.

Collaborative Care Delivery

We maintain regular communication with your general GP, specialist physicians, and orthopaedic surgeons. This close communication loop ensures your post-operative movement guidelines, weight-bearing constraints, and milestone targets are perfectly synchronized with your surgeon's specific operative notes.

1. Pre-Operative "Prehab"

Entering the operating theater with optimized physical baselines directly unlocks superior post-surgical outcomes. Preparing your muscles and mind now significantly shortens your eventual recovery arc.

  • Normalize Movement Quirks: Easing pre-existing biomechanical compensations.
  • Minimize Muscle Shutdown: Preserving key motor unit recruitment.
  • Clarify the Recovery Path: Pre-learning your early post-op movement phases.
  • Proactive Pain Planning: Establishing neuromuscular strategies for swelling care.
  • Independent Autonomy: Conditioning surrounding tissue structures in advance.

2. Post-Operative Management

From day one following surgery, structured rehabilitation begins. We guide you carefully through systematic healing milestones, progressing safely from initial symptom protection to active dynamic loading.

  • Phase 1: Clear Acute Pain and Swelling: Reducing swelling and re-establishing basic contractions.
  • Phase 2: Restore Full Range: Gently reclaiming structural joint mobility markers.
  • Phase 3: Rebuild Muscle Mass: Overcoming localized neural inhibition.
  • Phase 4: Kinetic Chain Tracking: Balancing dynamic multi-joint load sharing.
  • Phase 5: High-Demand Return: Graduated sports drills or functional work integration.

Advanced Clinical Infrastructure & Objective Data Systems

We utilize world-class diagnostic testing hardware and an expansive structural training facility to safely guide your movement return from early recovery to absolute physical capacity.

  • VALD ForceDecks & Dynamo Systems Bypasses pure visual guesswork by using integrated dual force plates and handheld dynamometers. This reads exact muscle output symmetry, tracking micro-variances in power distribution, braking forces, and multi-joint limb capabilities.
  • Fully Equipped Rehabilitation Gym A comprehensive, modern movement facility directly on-site. This space allows our clinicians to program, coach, and progress your structural loading pathways—safely taking you from foundational resistance exercises to dynamic athletic reconditioning.
  • Game Ready Compression Systems Integrates proactive dual-action cold and active anatomical compression loops to systematically reduce micro-vascular swelling, manage post-operative nerve signals, and optimize deep tissue circulation profiles.
  • Compex Muscle Stimulation Applies targeted neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to safely bypass early post-surgical arthrogenic muscle inhibition, preserving quadriceps or shoulder-girdle mass while joint lines heal.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I access the fully equipped rehabilitation gym?

Our rehabilitation gym space is always open to you during your scheduled one-on-one appointment times under the direct guidance of your physiotherapist. If you wish to access the gym facilities outside of your appointment times for independent exercise, you can do so either by purchasing one of our specialized, prepaid rehabilitation packages or by making a prior arrangement with our front desk. Please note that independent gym access is strictly limited to our staffed operating hours to ensure clinical safety.

Is there an extra fee to use the rehabilitation gym facilities?

Yes, there is a small fee if you plan on utilizing our gym space for independent training outside of your scheduled clinical appointments. However, if you are currently on a pre-paid RHP rehabilitation package, independent gym access is already fully included in your bundle. Please speak to our administration team or your treating therapist to find out which option aligns best with your weekly physical recovery schedule.

When should I ideally begin my pre-operative prehab program?

Ideally, pre-operative conditioning should start 4 to 6 weeks before your scheduled surgical date. This window gives your body enough time to build muscular endurance, establish proper movement tracking patterns, and safely adapt to targeted exercises. However, even 1 or 2 weeks of focused prehab can still significantly help preserve key motor unit recruitment and make your early post-op recovery easier.

How soon after my operation should I begin post-surgical physiotherapy?

The exact timing depends entirely on your surgeon’s specific operative guidelines. For many procedures—such as knee arthroscopies or total joint replacements—gentle circulation work and early muscle contractions start within the first 24 to 48 hours. For complex structural repairs like tendon reattachments or fusions, you may need a short period of immobilization before starting carefully managed passive movements.

Do I need to bring my operation notes or scans to my first session?

Yes. Please bring your surgical discharge summary, any post-operative protocol sheets provided by your specialist, and your relevant medical scans (such as X-rays or MRI reports). Having these documents allows us to precisely cross-reference your structural milestones and tailor our manual therapy and exercise pressures to your exact phase of tissue healing.

How do the VALD ForceDecks & Dynamo testing setups improve my surgical recovery?

Traditional rehabilitation relies heavily on subjective feel or visual checkups. The VALD systems provide objective, live biomechanical metrics. By executing targeted tests on the force plates and force frames, we gather exact numbers on limb-to-limb strength deficits, power development, and braking capacities. This tells us exactly when a recovering muscle group is truly ready to handle heavier weights or return to pivoting sports safely, protecting your surgical investment.
