Pre and Post Surgery

Intro

The decision to go through with a surgical approach to improve your pain or injury can be scary and full of uncertainty. Being armed with the knowledge of your Doctor, your surgeon and your Physiotherapist can be a comfort before and after the operation.

Having surgery is just the beginning. From the day you choose surgery, your rehab becomes the vital step towards returning to your daily life or returning to sport. Pre and post operative rehabilitation is key.

Pre Operative Rehabilitation

Being physically prepared for an operation is most often going to lead to a better outcome afterwards. Post surgical rehabilitation can be challenging, so it can be both mentally and physically rewarding to start your rehab now.

Benefits to Pre-op Rehab can include:

  • Improved or normalised movement patterns
  • Knowledge of the operative process
  • Understanding of your rehabilitation phases
  • Goal setting for the short and longer terms
  • Improved post-op pain management
  • Improved post-op lifestyle
  • Individualised program of Physiotherapy and independent exercise for rehabilitation.

Post Operative Rehabilitation

From day one after your surgery, your rehabilitation begins. During your Pre-op Rehab, you will understand your first phase is to reduce pain, swelling and initiate some normal movement.

Once the first phase is complete, you will progress in line with the plan discussed with your Physiotherapist and your Surgeon. We work with you to achieve your goals by developing detailed rehab programs and helping to maintain your progress in the weeks and months following your surgery.
